Planning Of My Magazine
This is the plan for my new magazine, it has been informed by the results of my survey.
My magazine will be targeted to mainstream teenage audience, roughly around the ages or 13-18 and will be aimed at teenage girls. This is because in my survey, POP magazine was the most common music magazine picked, and the target audience for POP magaizines is more or less the same as the target I have chosen for my pop magazine.
The genre of my music magazine will be and some R’n’B, this is because the majority of people that answered my survey said that they liked POP music, and the second best was R’n’B therefore these are the types of music I am going to include.
According to my survey my magazine is going to come out once a month as that was the most popular answer. Taking into consideration my target audience, and how often my magazine will come out, my music magazine is going to be around £2-£3, this is because this is how much my audience usually spend on music magazines, also it is affordable for my target audience as it is not too much money, also the magazine will only come out once a month therefore my target audience will be able to get the money for the magazine. The first edition of my music magazine is going to be cheaper than it would usually be so that it attracts my target audience.
My magazine is going to be quite glossy like Q magazine rather than like a newspaper like NME magazine, this is because I find it will be better for my target audience as they will be more interested. The person that is going to feature on the first edition is ‘Luke Luis’. Luke is a new young artist, he’s very hot and seems popular with the girls so I’m going to use him on my cover, this will engage my target audience to buy my magazine.
The section that will feature in the contents of my magazine will my interviews, articles, vox pops, and reviews of gigs/albums/singles, download charts and competitions.
Top of the Pops ; Double Page Spread Analysis.
This is my analysis for the top of the pops magazines contents.
The choice of band that has been featured in the article is ‘One Direction’. This suggests that the target audience for this magazine is most likely to be teenage girls. This is because one Direction is very popular with teenage girls as they are a new attractive young boy band. The type of language that is used in the article is informal and not very complex; it’s quite basic and appeals to the target audience. An example would be ‘snog’ as this is specific to the style of the magazine, as it has a fun, light hearted nature.. In the article, the colours that are used are fun, there are some bright colours and also they are similar to the colours on the front cover. The colours that are used are blue, yellow, white and black. The style of text that is used for the title, the bands names, and some wuotes that they say is quite feminine and also quite romantic and it relates to the artile as they are talking about flirting and friendships. This article includes four pages, on the first page there is a title and two colours, for the two different subjects that they are talking about. On the second page there is an image of the boy band, and on the 3rd page there are another two colours for another two subjects that they are talking about. Finally on the fourth page there is another picture of the boys, so roughly overall there are two pages that consist of text and the other two consist of images. The images are so dominant over the article pages as the boys are the main focus and the target audience would want to see them more than read about them. The sort of tone that the magazine is using when addressing the reader is as a close friend and an informed intelligent fan. In this article the band is being presented to the audience through the images as they look very happy and playful. By looking at the images you get a sense of welcome from the boy band and they seem very friendly and fun. The style of the article matches the style of the front cover of the magazine as they both include very fun colours. Also they use the same font. This magazine is most likely to be read by teenagers who are into pop music and boy bands, so therefore the audience reading the magazine will know about all of the music artists involved in the magazine. This means that instead of writing an artist’s full name, the magazine editors are able to use a more informal way to get more comfortable with the audience. The editors use the artist’s first name, as they believe the person reading the magazine will be familiar and will know who it is about.
Top of the Pops ; Contents Page Anaylsis.
This is my analysis for the top of the pops magazine contents page.
On the contents page for this magazine, it uses several images to make it more interesting and more engaging for the audience. The contents page also includes an image of the front cover with arrows and page numbers showing which stories are on which page, which makes it easier for the reader to find out which page the article that they want to read is on. There’s also some other images of more famous and popular artists that are included in the magazine. The images reflect the genre of the magazine because they are fun and exciting and that’s what the magazine is all about. The images support my initial findings about the style of the magazine as the main image on the contents page is the front cover and its contents, also the ‘behind the scene images’ make the page seem more relaxed. The colours that are used for the contents page in this magazine are white as the background, very plain and simple, and also a mix between dark purple and lilac. These colours have been chose because they were used on the front cover and throughout the magazine. The information is ordered in such way that is easy to read and simple for the readers. The different sections in the contents page are ‘all about you, which includes things like quizzes and a problem page. The next section is called ‘we love shopping’ which shows the pages for fashion/shopping. Another section included on the contents page is called wins & offers; this is a section for the different types of games, and competitions that the readers can enter. The final section is called ‘celebs and gossip’ this is the section with all the latest gossip and stories on popular celebs. The different section of the contents page are for the audience as they may have different reasons why they purchase the magazine therefore the magazine editors want there to be something for all of their readers in the magazine. On the contents page, it includes a promotional feature stating ‘win 1D’s digi pic frame!’ this would engage readers to read the magazine. This magazine does not have a logo; however you know that the contents page is top of the pops as it includes a shot of the front cover. This magazine is part of the BBC which is a large international television and radio broadcast, however these are not promoted on the contents page.
Top of the Pops ; Front Cover Analysis.
This is my analysis for the top of the pops front cover.
Looking at the front cover I can tell that the genre this magazine is about pop music, also from looking at the front cover I can see that the kinds of issues and articles that are going to be inside are interviews with certain artists and also all the hot gossip from other artists. By looking at the front cover, I can tell that the target audience for this magazine is going to be young teenagers, around the age of 13-18, more likely to be girls than boys. Also i think it will be people that enjoy pop music and all the young attractive artists that are around in today’s society. From looking at the central image, you can see that the magazine is using a direct mode of address as the people in the image are looking directly at the reader. This shows that the type of relationship wanted with the reader is a personal engagement, as they are looking at the reader they are trying to get the reader to purchase the magazine. On the front cover, in the central image, there is a boy band called ‘One Direction’ an attractive new boy group that came in third place on the x factor and they are now international stars. The publisher used this group as the central image as they are loved by the target audience (teenage girls). There are also two other groups on the front cover, which are ‘The Wanted’ and ‘Little Mix’, they are also popular with the target audience and so are all the other single artists on the cover. The anchorage text says ‘straight from the heart- all new romantic revelations as 1D get emotional’ this implies that there’s going to be an interview in the magazine about the boys and about their relationships and personal information about their love life. The overall message that the artist is giving is that they’re stylish, quite fun and smart, and welcoming. The anchorage text uses a persuasive technique as it allows the readers to get an inside to the emotional side of the boy group.
The magazine represents boys as being quite soft and gentle and friendly, also they look very welcoming, however, the image of little mix represents girls as feisty, unapproachable, and strong. The front cover only includes one buzz word and that word is ‘cheap’. The effect that this would have on the reader is that it would attract them to pick up the magazine and read the cover as everyone likes cheap things. The design of the title block tells me that the magazine is feminine and directed towards females and the title is on a bright pink background and has stars around it. The puffs suggest that there will be similar clothes and items that celebs have been seen with and that they are cheap, this shows that the type of audience is teenage girls. The colours that are used on the cover are mainly pink yellow and turquoise; these colours are bright and eye catching. This helps attract the readers as the target audience is young teenage girls, and these are feminine colours. The colour scheme relates to the overall style and tone of the magazine and the magazine is fun and cool and this engages the audience. The strategies that the magazine uses to attract the audience are the graphic images, the bright attractive colours and the images of popular and loved artists. Bright attractive colours have been used all over the front cover, this attracts readers and the magazine looks fun. It has been used so that the audience is interested and it engages them to purchase the magazine.
Britney Spears Analysis.
This is my anaylisis for 3 Britney Spears Magazine Covers.
The image, of Britney Spears, has been cropped as her legs have been cut off and the image has been enlarged so that she is closer to the audience. The type of shot that has been used is a high angle, as she is lying on her back; this is because it shows her body language and so that the audience feel more close to her. This is typical of a man’s magazine. Britney is wearing an opened buttoned white shirt, showing her black bra; she has no bottoms on but is wearing underwear. This suggests that she’s becoming a woman as she is showing off her body. This would appeal to men as; because she is getting older she is becoming more desirable for men. The props that have been used are a teletubbie teddy bear, and a phone. The messages that these are conveying to the audience is that she is growing up from being a girl to a women and she shows this by holding the teddy bear in one hand and a telephone in the other hand. The setting that is used is a bed with a deep colour for the sheets, the connotations of this is that she is lying on the bed to look more sexual. The colours that have been used are a dark feminine pink for the bed sheets that Britney is laying on, this colour is associated with lust and light pink and black for her underwear, using the colour pink repeatedly shows that she is feminine.
The image has been cropped as Britney Spears’ legs have been cut out of the image. It is a mid shot as the audience are positioned to concentrate on her upper body. Britney is wearing a pair of knickers but no bra although her breasts are pushed up onto a mattress. Britney seems to be saying that she has nothing to hide that is why she is hardly wearing any clothes. This image would usually be used on a men’s magazine as she is very exposed and the image would generally attract men. White lighting is used to make Britney stand out, this is by having no other coloured associated with the front of the magazine, the audience is just going to be focused on Britney and not be distracted by another other colour that is involved because there is only one colour and that is White. The colour white is used to contrast her as it shows purity and innocence.
This image has been chosen because at the time, Britney was going trouble a lot of troubles and was at a low point in her life. The black and white shows that it’s a very dull and sad time for Britney Spears. The image is an extreme close up shot and has been cropped so it’s just a large image of her face. The shot type relates to the anchorage text as the shot is very effective on the reader as she does not look happy and she just looks plain, this relates to the anchorage text as it says ‘Britney Spears inside an American tragedy’ this shows that this is what she is feeling inside. The type of relationship that Britney wants with the audience is one of which they feel sorry for her and have sympathy for her because she is at a low point. The anchorage text supports this by saying ‘inside an American tragedy’.
